Antique Agra

Age pre-1910. #7650 Agra.
This Agra measures 9’10” X 14’1” (302 x 430 cm). Hey, is this a fantastic rug, or not? Unbelievable color, color, color! This third quarter 19th century Indian carpet is beautiful. When I first saw it, it actually took my breath away and made the hair on my arms stand on end to the extent that the guy I was buying it from looked me up and down and said ‘I guess you like it , don’t you?’ It was so obvious that I couldn’t even bargain on the price! The Prussian blue on a deep ruby ground is astonishingly lovely. There really are only two colors in this rug. Several blue tones and deep ruby red with touches of lighter red for accent. The rug has excellent pile (although these rugs never had a thick pile, they are cut short). The rug is very finely woven. The ends and sides are complete. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance. read more

Antique Ghazan India Rug

Age pre-1910. This antique rug made in India in the last quarter of the 19th century is signed Ghazan. It measures 10’2” x 16’2”. It is a fantastic rug with a light sky blue field with images of Sheikh Masjid Mosque at Karunagappally Kollam in Kerala India at either end of the field sitting on two raised platforms with calligraphy. It has a medium-sized central medallion in very pale blue with pulled floral motif in pale gold and ivory. There are four indigo colored urns containing lovely floral motifs. The field has a very loose scrolling vine and flower motif which looks rather Mogulish. There are four repeated inscriptions in the field at either side of the medallion as well as in the base of the minarets flanking the Mosque. A golden tobacco colored major border contains a shield and palmette motif which is the centerpiece of a five reciprocal border layout. This is fabulous piece of woven art from the 19th century. This rug is in mint condition. It is clean and ready to go. I’m sorry the rug is too large to fit in the camera frame but it is complete. The buyer pays the shipping. Age pre-1910. This circa 1920 Indian Amrisar measures 9’10” X 13’10” (304 X 425 cm). This rug is in essentially perfect condition except for the small area highlighted by my finger in the photos. The rug is quite large and did not photograph well in the overall picture so please be sure to view the close-ups for the exact colors and clarity of the design. This rug has the feeling and look of a Kashan. It may even be an Indo-Kashan. The fine quality of the weave and the exactness of the drawing is of the highest quality. The rug is woven using very lustrous wools. There is some beautiful saturated green and yellow on a deep ruby red ground. The field has an overall design of flower heads, flowering branches and small trees without a medallion. The border has a very intricate design of flower heads and flowering branches on an indigo ground. This is a lovely and beautifully executed rug! It is clean and ready to go.
